Description Benylin Children Dry Cough and Sore Throat Syrup contains glycerol and sugar to help soothe irritated areas of your child's throat. This non-drowsy formulation has a blackcurrant flavour and is suitable for children aged 1 year and over. How it works Coughing begins when part of the breathing passage becomes inflamed or irritated. It is a reflex action that attempts to remove the irritant and clear the airway. Coughs are either productive, producing excess mucus or phlegm, or unproductive, producing no mucus or phlegm. Chesty and mucus coughs are productive, while dry and tickly coughs are unproductive. This syrup is designed to soothe dry, tickly coughs. How to use For oral use only. Do not use more than the stated dose shown. Shake the bottle well before use. Children 1–5 years: Give one 5 ml spoonful. Repeat 3–4 times per day if needed. Children 5 years and over: Give two 5 ml spoonfuls. Repeat 3–4 times per day if needed. Do not give to children under 1 year. Do not give more than 4 doses in 24 hours. If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, consult your doctor or pharmacist. Warnings Do not use if your child is allergic to any of the ingredients. Do not use if your child has an intolerance to some sugars. Contains sodium. Contains 3.49 g glucose and 1.16 g sucrose per 5 ml. This should be taken into account in children with diabetes mellitus. If your child has been told by a doctor that they have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before using this medicine. This medicinal product contains 19.08 mg sodium (main component of cooking/table salt) in each 5 ml. This is equivalent to 0.95% of the recommended maximum daily dietary intake of sodium for an adult. Ingredients Each 5 ml contains: Glycerol 0.75 ml, Liquid sugar 1.707 g, Liquid glucose 2.313 g. Also contains: Citric acid monohydrate, sodium benzoate (E211), blackcurrant flavour, sodium citrate, azorubine (E122) and water.
