Description Hedex is a combination analgesic containing paracetamol, aspirin, and caffeine. Paracetamol provides antipyretic and analgesic effects through action on the hypothalamic heat-regulating centre and by raising the pain threshold. Aspirin contributes analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties by inhibiting the cyclooxygenase enzyme, thereby reducing prostaglandin biosynthesis. Prostaglandins play a key role in the pain associated with injury or inflammation, and their increased production occurs during fever. Caffeine, at the low doses present in this formulation, stimulates the central nervous system and produces a synergistic enhancement of the paracetamol and aspirin combination.
